The Basic Education Assistance for Mindanao (BEAM) has awarded ninety (90) scholarship slots to public school teachers of Regions XI, XII and ARRM for Master of Education in Instructional Leadership (MEIL) at the University of Southeastern Philippines. This is in line with the thrust of BEAM in helping the teachers across the regions to become more effective.
Dr. Ian D’arcy Walsh, the Australian Project Director granted the slots to these scholars in a simple ceremony last February 23, 2008 at the University of Southeastern Philippines. He said that he was very happy with the positive response of the teachers in this program.
There were around 200 applicants across the region but BEAM has chosen only 90 deserving teachers to avail of the program. The applicants were selected based on their length of service, performance, age and the recommendation of their school heads and the Schools Division Superintendents. The MEIL program is conceptualized through the Mindanao eLearning Space, a consortium of Department of Education, BEAM and University of Southeastern Philippines. It is delivered in a blended eLearning mode to give the students more time to study on their own rather than attending classes every Saturday. The program is offered in trimester and the scholars are expected to finish their degree within 16 months. As stipulated in the contract, the grantees are given only two (2) years to finish their studies, otherwise they will refund the amount granted to them. |
